Republican Rep. Ron Paul of Texas is still hoping to get Capitol Hill to vote in favor of legalizing marijuana provided the plant is used for medical purposes. According to a fact sheet published by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), marijuana is the most commonly abused illicit drug in the United States.
